KoolSpan Foundation Technologies

According to CIO Insight’s 2007 “Future of IT” survey: 70 percent of IT executives believe that their enterprise network traffic will be encrypted within five years.

Why the growing need for encryption? Today, threats come from both inside and outside of the enterprise; therefore, we must protect traffic end to end, regardless of whether it’s inside or outside the corporate firewall. There are numerous perimeter and software-based security solutions on the market, but these are not generally practical or cost effective when it comes to end-to-end, device-to-device protection of critical traffic. Clearly we need a new device-centric model for network traffic encryption and authentication.

KoolSpan’s core technology delivers a suite of unique capabilities and an end-to-end, device-to-device security architecture:

  • Peer-to-peer and hub-and-spoke security models
  • Independent and discrete management of a single device by multiple authorized parties
  • Ability to operate securely within multiple, discrete security groups
  • Self-contained operation
  • Central control with distributed operation
  • No certificate management
  • Natural for cross-domain, inter-organizational operation
  • Fully integrated, protected operation within hardened crypto processor

KoolSpan core technology is available to the enterprise in KoolSpan Kits (Lock and Key) and to OEMs with a complete toolkit for integration or embedding into any network-aware device.
