KoolSpan Unveils Smart Remote Access Solution that Provides Unprecedented Security for Enterprises and Unsurpassed Connectivity for Mobile Workers

New Product Enables Secure, Remote Connections to Multiple Networks with One Key, Supporting Two-Factor Authentication Without a Server Infrastructure or Client Software

Bethesda, Md. - October 27, 2004 - KoolSpan, Inc., a developer of Smart Card-based security solutions for enterprises, today unveiled its new Smart Remote Access, the next step in its heralded Smart Card-based solution for network security. Smart Remote Access secures remote enterprise users using one keychain-sized KoolSpan Key that plugs into their computers and allows them to securely connect to multiple networks.

The system is revolutionary in that it provides remote users identical connectivity to that of local users, is incredibly easy to use and requires no server infrastructure or VPN client software. With installation taking just minutes, it is the easiest method available today to support two-factor authentication in an unmatched security architecture that utilizes Smart Cards on both sides of the communications link.

Using the KoolSpan Smart Remote Access system, management can provide secure access to the network or to a specific asset on the network, making it ideal for remote workers that need to securely access all company information as well as third-party consultants or customers that may only need access to a select set of data.

The network- and device-independent remote access solution provides 256- bit AES encryption, on a per packet basis. Encryption is performed at Layer 2 and tunneled over Layer 3 to secure connections to multiple remote networks in any enterprise infrastructure. Smart Remote Access delivers an identical user experience both inside and outside the enterprise and a local (to the enterprise) IP address regardless of where a user is connecting.

Its intuitive operation delivers savings because users require less support, and there is no need to establish and maintain a second security policy for users when they connect remotely. As the remote user connects to the network as a true LAN peer, the already established local security policy is 100% enforced.

"Our security solution is designed for today's workflow, enabling identical connectivity inside and outside the enterprise and providing access for employees and/or trusted third-parties to specific network assets," said KoolSpan founder and CEO, Tony Fascenda. "The KoolSpan technology is automatic, simple and powerful."

KoolSpan's Smart Remote Access keeps network information secure to those who need it and protects networks from intruders while enabling enterprises to provide borderless access to customers, consultants, telecommuters and mobile employees. All this is provided without the need for additional infrastructure, time or resources.
