KoolSpan Provides Secure Wi-Fi Service to SecureWorld Conference Participants

Security Industry Insiders Utilize KoolSpan's Smart Card-based Security Solution to Protect Their Communications

Seattle, WA - October 26, 2004 - KoolSpan, Inc., a developer of Smart Card-based security solutions for enterprises, today showcased its heralded security solution at the SecureWorld Expo, held October 26 and 27 in Seattle. SecureWorld participants, equipped with a KoolSpan Key that they can pick up in the registration area of the conference are guaranteed a protected connection to the Internet.

The keychain-sized KoolSpan Key plugs into a USB port on a user's computer to provide 256-bit AES encryption, on a per-packet basis, at Layer 2. The KoolSpan Key authenticates to a KoolSpan Lock, a compact device about the size of a VHS cassette tape that is deployed between and access point and a public Internet connection. At the same time, the Lock authenticates the Key, assuring the user that the connection is to a trusted network. Both the KoolSpan Key and Lock house a Smart Card. With a Smart Card on each side of the communications link, KoolSpan delivers bi-directional authentication without exchanging the network's secret keys and strong security without a server infrastructure.

As is the case at SecureWorld, the KoolSpan solution can be deployed in minutes and can easily support a diverse set of users. "We are pleased and proud to provide trusted communications to the security industry's insiders," said KoolSpan founder and CEO, Tony Fascenda. "The KoolSpan technology is automatic, simple and powerful."

A recognized thought leader in the security industry, Fascenda will also be presenting on the SecureWorld Identity Management panel, at 1:30PM in the Keynote Theater.

In addition to local network security, the KoolSpan Smart Card-based system can secure remote enterprise users allowing them to securely connect to multiple networks, both wireless and wireline. The system is revolutionary in that it provides remote users identical connectivity to that of local users, is incredibly easy to use and requires no server infrastructure or VPN client software. With installation taking just minutes, it is the easiest method available today to support two-factor authentication in an unmatched security architecture that utilizes Smart Cards on both sides of the communications link.
